Work through lesson tracks in Python, Statistics, SQL, and Machine Learning inside the Learn workspace; play PlexQuest, the daily SQL challenge; browse and download free datasets; and read articles.
It is what opens the rest of the site. Signing in gives you the lesson tracks, the tutorial quizzes and the datasets. Subscribing to the newsletter opens PlexQuest, the Throne Room, the Leaderboard and the events directory as well. It is free, it is one email, and you can leave whenever you like — there is no paid plan and nothing to buy.
Go to your account page and open the Membership tab: one button joins the list, and the same button leaves it. It always uses the address on your account, so there is nothing to type. If you change your email there, your subscription moves with it.
Almost always this means you subscribed with a different address from the one on your account — the list is keyed on your account email. Open the Membership tab on your account page: it shows the exact address it uses and whether that address is on the list. Subscribing from the blog page is a separate digest and does not open anything.
Pick a track using the Python, Stats, SQL, or ML tabs at the top of the left panel, then choose a lesson from the list below them. The lesson opens in the main workspace on the right.
Use the search bar at the top to search every track at once, or the filter box in the left panel to narrow the current track's lesson list.
It bookmarks the open lesson in your browser so it counts toward the progress bar on the track card. It does not mark the lesson as completed.
No. Lesson quiz progress is kept in the browser you answered in, so it does not follow you to another browser or device, and clearing your browsing data clears it. Each lesson quiz has a Reset All button that clears its stored answers.
Open the lesson and click Share. On phones this opens your normal share sheet; on desktop the lesson link is copied to your clipboard. Anyone opening that link lands on the same lesson.
Click the Dark button in the lesson toolbar, above the lesson panel. Your choice is remembered in that browser. There is no dark mode setting in Account Settings.
Some lessons in the curriculum list are still being written, so their pages aren't published yet. Lesson pages also only open inside the Learn workspace — a direct link pasted into the address bar sends you back to the home page. If a lesson that used to work stops loading, email support with the lesson name.
A daily SQL challenge. You write real SQL in the editor and it runs against a read-only sample database, so you are querying actual data rather than picking from multiple choice. You need to be signed in and subscribed to the newsletter — it is free, and one button on your account page does it.
Run executes your query and shows the rows back, as often as you like, for free. Submit is your answer, and it spends a life whether you are right or wrong. Each quest gives you 6 lives.
Each quest has a 15-minute candle. It starts the first time you open that quest's page — not when you type your first query — and it keeps burning after you leave. Browsing the Throne Room does not start it, so you can look around before you commit.
Every quest has a base XP value. Using the hint and each wrong submit reduce what that quest pays, down to a floor of 25% of the base — so a quest is always worth finishing. There is one hint per quest, and its cost comes off that quest's reward only, not off any balance you hold.
The editor only accepts a single read-only statement: it must start with SELECT or WITH, cannot contain a semicolon or SQL comments, and is capped at 4000 characters. Anything that would change data is blocked. Results are capped at 200 rows.
Yes — every earlier day in the current cycle stays open, so you can catch up on ones you missed. Days that haven't arrived yet are sealed. Quests you have already won don't pay XP a second time.
A season is one calendar week, Monday through Sunday. At the end of it the top three on the Court are recorded as PLEXKING, PLEXHEIR, and PLEXROYAL; everyone else ranks as CHALLENGER. Hold first place two weeks running and you are crowned PLEXEMPEROR.
If soundtrack files are installed you'll see a music control with a mute toggle, a track picker, and a volume slider. Those three choices are saved to your account, so they follow you between devices. If no tracks are installed the control doesn't appear at all.
Yes. Every submitted query is recorded against your account along with whether it was correct and how long it took, so your quest history can be shown back to you. Queries you only Run are not stored.
There are. The Court, inside PlexQuest, ranks players by the XP they earn solving quests that week. The Leaderboard in the Learn workspace is separate and ranks learners by quiz points. They don't feed into each other.
Your best saved score on each quiz lesson, added together. Improving a score you already set replaces it rather than stacking on top. The table is recalculated every time the page loads, so there is no waiting for an update.
A way of reading your point total at a glance: bronze is 50 points, silver 200, diamond 800, and gold 3000. They are a display of the score you already have — there is no wallet, and nothing to spend them on.
Yes. This Week runs Monday to Sunday, This Month is the calendar month, and All Time covers everything. You can also sort by points, number of quizzes, or name, and set a minimum score to filter the table.
The link appears in the Learn navigation once you're on the mailing list, and the page itself needs the same thing — both boards are for subscribers. Subscribing is free: one button on the Membership tab of your account page.
Go to Account Settings → Security. Enter your current password, then choose and confirm a new one of at least 8 characters. You stay signed in afterwards. For safety, password changes are limited to 5 attempts every 15 minutes.
Go to Account Settings → Profile. Photos can be JPG, PNG, or WEBP, up to 3MB. Country is chosen from a short list — pick Other if yours isn't on it.
Not from the settings page — your email is shown there but locked. Email support and we'll change it for you.
Go to Account Settings → Danger Zone and click Delete Account, then confirm by typing DELETE and entering your password. This is immediate and permanent: it removes your profile, bookmarks, dataset votes (including their contribution to dataset totals), any projects you submitted, and your newsletter subscription record. There is no grace period and it cannot be undone.
Yes — browsing and downloading datasets doesn't require a subscription.
Voting and bookmarking require being signed in and subscribed. If you're signed in but not subscribed, you'll see a subscribe prompt when you try.
Yes — you can search by keyword, and filter by category, year, and vote count, and switch between list and grid view.
AI and data conferences, meetups and summits, each one checked by a person before it appears. Every event listed is free to attend — that is the rule, not a filter you have to set. You get the dates in the event's own timezone and in yours, the venue and a map, who is speaking, the deadlines, and travel and visa notes.
Signed-in newsletter subscribers. If somebody shares a link to a single event you will see the cover, the title, the date and the location whatever your account, and then a prompt to sign in and subscribe for the rest.
Yes. Apply as an organiser from the events page, and once you are approved you can submit events. Approval lets you submit, not publish — every event, from every organiser, is read by an admin before it goes up.
Whoever reviewed it left a note saying what needs changing, and it is waiting on your events dashboard. Edit it and resubmit — nothing you wrote is thrown away, and the thread stays in one place rather than turning into an email chain.
The version people can see stays up while your edit waits for review, so a listing never goes blank or half-updated. Once it is approved the new version replaces it.
No. Listing is free and so is attending — paid events are not accepted, whoever is running them.
Saved lessons, quiz answers, and your dark mode choice are stored in your browser, not on your account, so they don't follow you to another browser or device and are lost if you clear your browsing data.
It appears for anyone who isn't on the subscriber list, whether or not they're signed in. Subscribing with the email address on your account removes it.
The popup matches your subscription against the email address on your account. If you subscribed with a different address, subscribe again using your account email.
There is a ceiling on how fast queries can be sent: 90 runs and 30 submits a minute. Normal play never reaches it — if you hit it, wait a moment and try again.
Use the "Forgot your password?" link on the sign-in page.
