Agree the question, the definitions and what done looks like before you open the data.
A Word template for the brief an analyst sends to the person asking: the decision it serves, the question as asked and as agreed, definitions of terms with the alternatives not chosen, scope and time period, data sources and their known issues, deadline and time budget, the format of the answer, what done looks like, risks, and a line for both sides to agree. Grey guidance text says what to write in each part.
It comes with a filled example for HealSync’s 2023 claims reimbursement review from Explain Your Query. It shows why the definitions matter (on Full coverage the rate of sums is 72.7% and the average of each claim’s ratio 111.6%) and lists the risks a first look found: 2 claims recorded twice, 39 reimbursed above the amount claimed, and all 34 denied claims and all 39 claims with coverage “None” carrying a reimbursement.
DOCX for Word, LibreOffice or Google Docs. Four A4 pages: two to fill in, two of example.
