What to say, and in what order, while you answer a SQL question in front of someone.
Two A4 pages for live SQL tests, written on HealSync's healthcare tables from Explain Your Query. Page 1 gives a six-step spoken framework (restate, grain and key, plan, write, check, explain the result and its limits) and works it once on the telemedicine sessions. Every query was run in DuckDB, and its real result is printed under it.
Then seven classic question types, each with the model query, its result and the sentence to say: finding duplicates, the Nth highest value, rows in one table but not another, counts that include zero, a pivot with a NULL group, "A then B within N days", and runs of consecutive days.
Each one shows the edge case interviewers probe, on the data's real faults: three sessions recorded twice, two claims stored twice with different statuses, five sessions whose doctor is not on the staff list, ties, and a quarter with no sessions. Page 2 adds the follow-ups to expect, what to say when a query errors or returns the wrong number of rows, and how to state a result in three parts.
PDF to print, and an HTML version to read on screen. DuckDB syntax, as in the LucidPlexus workbench.
