Type a startup's monthly numbers and read its growth, churn and runway on one page.
An Excel workbook with one row per month: revenue, customers at the end of the month, new and lost customers, net burn and cash. It computes month-on-month revenue growth, net new customers, customers at the start of the month, churn (lost customers over customers at the start of the month), runway (cash over net burn, or “Not burning” when the startup earns more than it spends) and the change in cash that the burn does not explain, which is where funding rounds show up.
Every month is checked: it must follow the month above, and its customers must tie out to last month's. Flags mark runway under your alert (12 months by default), churn above your alert (5 percent a month by default) and months when revenue fell. The Dashboard shows twelve figures for the latest month and the last 12 months, six counts over all the months, three charts of the last 36 months (revenue, customers, and runway against the alert) and four sentences that write themselves.
It comes filled in with all 38 months of Business 157, a Lanternfield startup from Worth Backing?: churn of 8.4 percent a month over its last year, a follow-on round of $3,790,095 that shows in its cash in February 2024, and 10.6 months of runway left in March 2026. Clear the yellow cells to start your own.
XLSX for Excel 2010 or later and LibreOffice, four sheets. Formulas only, no macros; no function needs Excel 2019 or Microsoft 365.
