๐Ÿค Community guidelines

Short version: be specific, show your work, credit others, and don't be the reason we need more rules.

โœ… What makes this place good

๐Ÿ”
Be specific
"My query returns NULL for mid-year stores, here's the CASE WHEN" beats "SQL not working". Specific questions get specific answers.
โŒจ๏ธ
Show your queries
This is a platform about evidence. Claims come with the code that produced them; feedback points at lines, not vibes.
๐Ÿ™Œ
Credit ideas you borrow
If an idea, query, chart or approach came from someone else, name them and link to where you found it. Credit costs nothing and builds the culture that makes the work here trustworthy. How to credit โ†’
๐ŸŒฑ
Welcome beginners
Everyone's first cohort table is wrong. Point at the fix, not at the person.

๐Ÿ™Œ How to credit

One rule: if you didn't come up with it, say who did and link to where it came from, right next to what you used. Copy the pattern that fits.

๐Ÿ“ฆ
An approach from someone's project
Say so in your write-up, where you use it, with a link to their project.
The cohort logic follows @maria's "Retail churn" project (link).
๐Ÿ’ฌ
A tip from a comment or post
Mention the person and link the comment.
Using a window function here, thanks to @sam's reply on my question (link).
โŒจ๏ธ
Code you copied or adapted
Put a comment above that block with the source. Keep any licence note it came with.
-- Adapted from @lee's "Sales funnel" project (link)
๐Ÿ—‚๏ธ
Data, charts and images from outside
Name the source, link the original (not where you found a copy), and check the licence allows reuse.
Data: World Bank, "GDP per capita" (2024), link ยท CC BY 4.0
๐Ÿ“
Someone else's words
Quotation marks plus the name and link. Rewording it doesn't remove the need for credit.

No credit needed for common knowledge, standard syntax (a JOIN is a JOIN), or the guided-project brief and dataset everyone is working from.
When unsure, credit it. Over-crediting never hurts anyone.
Credit isn't permission. Publishing large parts of someone else's work as the core of your project is plagiarism even with a credit line; build on it, don't repost it.

๐Ÿšซ What gets removed

Spam and self-promotion unrelated to the work; harassment, insults, or discrimination of any kind; posting someone's private information; plagiarism โ€” publishing someone else's analysis as your own, or without credit; malicious content of any sort, including attempts to abuse the platform, its datasets, or its coin system; and off-topic flooding that drowns out real work. Moderators remove such content without debate.

๐Ÿšจ Reporting

Every post, comment, and profile has a Report option (spam, abuse, malicious, other โ€” with room for details). Reports go to a moderator queue and are reviewed by a human. Reporting is confidential: the reported person never sees who reported them. False or bad-faith reporting is itself a violation.

โš–๏ธ The enforcement ladder

1๏ธโƒฃ
Warning
A first, minor slip usually earns a message from a moderator, nothing more.
2๏ธโƒฃ
Content removal
The offending post or comment is taken down; your account is untouched.
3๏ธโƒฃ
Ban
Repeated or serious violations block all interactive access โ€” posting, commenting, voting, publishing. Your account and published work remain.
4๏ธโƒฃ
Account termination
Reserved for malicious behavior: the account is removed and published work is anonymized. This is rare, final, and never a surprise โ€” it follows the ladder except in extreme cases.
